Preprocessed Templates still need Visual Studio Assembly?

Am I missing something? Why does the T4 Toolbox preprocessed template project template produce files which have a  hard dependency on Visual Studios text template assembly? This seems counter-intuitive. I was hoping in the preprocessed land I'd get a template which leveraged all the T4 Toolbox extensions (i.e. multiple file output), without needing a reference to the Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating assembly.

Are there plans to provide this functionality?

T4 Toolbox is built specifically to extend functionality of T4 in Visual Studio. You can use the built-in "Preprocessed Template" item template which produces code that does not have dependency on Visual Studio. However, you will not be able to use any of the T4 Toolbox functionality.
